PRPblog.com Experiences Growth as a Site Management Information System

To complement our client information storage and management system at www.projectoolbox.com, we have designed and placed into operation www.PRPblog.com. Here, project teams can geo-spatially store and view a wide range of information from project videos to presentations to data. The system is intuitive to use and has been well received by clients, especially with its ability to deliver video content. We are now using PRPblog.com content on many of our projects to assist clients with their decision-making.

Accomplishment Over Activity

We pride ourselves on a strong track record of creative problem solving and cost avoidance in environmental remediation. Click here to view a summary of the projects that we managed in 2007. We look forward to continuing to serve you in 2008! If you are not a client, consider us for deriving solutions at your next tough project.

PNL is Facilitating a Sediments Management Training Session in Houston, TX

PNL is hosting a 1-day Sediments Training Session in Houston, TX on August 28, 2008. The session will showcase experts in sediments assessment and remediation, as discussion leaders. The goal is to discuss multi-party sediments sites, facilitate discussions of risk management procedures and technologies, and share new ideas and concepts that may ultimately end up in promoting cost-effective solutions at these costly projects. If you are interested in attending this session, please contact Elizabeth Fontana at efontana@projectnavigator.com.

PNL Has a Blog: Project Chronicles

PNL's blog, Project Chronicles, is a source for the latest environmental issues and news articles. The blog offers short postings of our opinions and commentaries on the environment as well as breaking news alerts.

We invite you to log on and post your opinions.

PNL Helps Manage USC Research Programs

During 2007, PNL assisted Chevron Environmental Management Company manage two USC research efforts in the collection and interpretation of digital site data, and its subsequent visualization. The effort builds on many of the principles that have been established for monitoring "digital oil fields," and applies them to remediation projects. The work was performed in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Materials Science. Dr. Raudel Sanchez, who graduated under the program, is now working at PNL.

PNL Expansion

Our nationwide service coverage continues to expand, by the relocation of two of our project managers.

Central California

Joshua Teves, B.S., who managed PNL's Houston office, has relocated to California, and has established a new PNL practice, based in Fresno. While Josh will continue to provide project support to PNL's Los Angeles and Bay Area offices, he is now better located to provide project management services to clients in the Central Valley. Josh can be reached at jteves@projectnavigator.com.

Southeast

Bob Piniewski, R.G., B.S., has opened a PNL practice in Raleigh, N.C. Bob's presence in N.C., allows PNL to serve clients in the Southeast, as well as permitting Bob to continue to work on sediments projects in the Gulf Coast and Northeast. Bob can be reached at bobp@projectnavigator.com.

Northwest

Mark Brearley, R.G., Ph.D. has established a PNL practice in Seattle, WA. Mark brings 20 years of project management experience to PNL after a career with Unocal Corporation and Chevron Corporation. Mark can be reached at mbrearley@projectnavigator.com.

PNL's GreenStructure Formulates "Green" Project Solutions

Within PNL, we have formulated a cross-functional team, which draws together our expertise in the conceptual planning and design of green developments, especially over environmentally impacted land. Our services are described at www.GreenStructure.com. The success of a green project, where resources are used or recycled to generate a cost-effective, environmentally conscious development, requires the combined creative talents of environmental engineers, architects, public planners and construction/landscape design professionals. With our strong foundation in environmental engineering and the sciences, we are capable of managing all aspects of a green project.

Green Tips

Small Things You Can Do To Make a Big Difference:

  1. Stop Buying Bottled Water. Instead, use gallon or larger containers and fill sturdy reusable bottles. Better yet, install a water filter in your faucet to avoid purchasing plastic containers all together.
  2. Utilize Reusable Grocery Bags. A host of new reusable shopping bags are making it easier to carry your groceries in a more eco-friendly way. Most groceries stores now sell these for $1.
  3. Stop Clicking the Print Button. When you do need to print, use both sides of paper. Additionally, try and purchase only chlorine-free paper with a high percentage of recycled content.
  4. Switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs when your incandescent bulbs burn out. You will save money on your electric bill and reduce the use of fossil fuels. (If the light bulb breaks, please review the EPA's 12 Step Cleanup Process.
  5. Recycle. Most people now recycle their cans, bottles and paper but many other items should avoid landfills too. Curbside waste management companies may not except plastic bags, batteries, cell phones, motor oil, light bulbs, etc. You can find out where to recycle just about anything by going to Earth 911.
  6. Shop for Local Food. Shopping locally helps support sustainable agriculture and reduces fuel consumption required for transporting food from distant locations. You can also join a community supported agriculture (CSA) program at www.localharvest.org.
  7. Utilize Tree-Free Billing. Pay your bills online and cancel paper statements. You will save trees and postage.
  8. Save energy with no effort by enabling your computer's energy-saving features or just by turning off the lights when you leave a room.
  9. Banish Screen Savers. These won't save energy. Screen savers eat up lighting and processing energy. Instead, set screen savers to "none" or "blank screen."
  10. Clean Up Using Green Organic Cleaners. Use spray cleaners and dishwashing liquids that won't add bad chemicals to the water supply, air, and soil. Eco-friendly products include Method; and if you must use paper towels, get recycled products from Seventh Generation or Planet. And for whatever waste you have, use biodegradable trash bags, like the ones from BioBag.

Cool Climate Calculator

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley Institute of the Environment (BIE) and the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL), have created a carbon calculator that allows not only individuals, but households, small businesses and even cities and municipalities to estimate the amount of carbon dioxide they generate and identify areas where they can reduce their footprint.
